I have a Dell Dimension E510 setup for the kids. If I try to install Windows 7 and I fail to activate with any of the procedures here, can I just "rollback" to previous OS (Vista)? What are my options?

Can always do a Ghost image for Vista and if all fails put the image back on.

Is that a desktop Dimension model (not Inspiron)? Also I have an HP MSS ex470 that does daily backups on that machine, can I do a restore from that? Thanks for any guidance.

Just install Windows 7 (upgrade Vista if you wish...) ensuring that there is no product key entered and the automatically activate Windows online check-box is not checked.

After installation has finished boot the PC into Windows 7. Once at the Desktop, run a loader... I have had vast success using Daz's loader on Dells, here is where you can get it: http://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/8632

If you have chosen to run Daz's loader then all you have to do is click the "Install" button (right next to the Uninstall button) and you should be good to go. If the activation for some reason fails, then you have the option to select an alternate loader...you can also choose what OEM brand's SLIC/certificates/product key that you want to use (ex: You could use Acer brand SLIC, an Acer certificate and the Acer product key)... Its pretty cool.

I believe with Hazar's loader you would run it as administrator (right-click, Run as Administrator) and then click "Install/Remove loader". It is should automatically install the appropriate certificate/key (you don't get to choose, but it is not a big deal) and restart your PC so when you boot back up you are activated. Hazar's loader is here: http://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/10187

No matter what loader you use, remember to be patient because it can sometimes take a little bit for things to happen...and these loaders are coded to automatically restart after they do what they do, so don't get impatient and start clicking around...
