I'm new to MDL and see a lot of torrents for pre-release software. Leaving aside the illegality of using unlicensed software, I have a general question on applications and files that people download from torrents linked to MDL. Is there a history or experience with the "sponsor" of a torrent download adding malicious code or other gotchas before it's set up to download? For example, there are a lot of links to beta and RTM MS Office for Mac. If one were to load the software to play around, has there been a risk of infecting one's computer, or am I unclear on how these apps are downloaded? Also, I am curious about how activation keys work in this environment. Won't many users using the same key obtained from Internet postings basically flag illegal usage to the software manufacturer? Again, more intellectual curiousity than anything else.
may i borrow your thread and add a question pertaining to security How do you differentiate between a non-malicious keygen vs one that has an evil keylogger attached to it?? Since both would yield positive from antivirus softwares??
I wanted to know if the members here provide kegens or patches for application softwares. Hope I'm not breaking any rules here.
One should always check for hashes (MD5/SHA) to confirm if the file is genuine or not. Even during download due to issues with Internet, the file might get corrupted and hence matching hashes will confirm.
