I DO NOT LIKE AND WILL NOT USE INTEL.

I will be buying a new computer in 2 or 3 months. What is the newest AMD CPU or APU supported by Windows 8.1.
i had my previous computer about 10 years. (Home Built) (AMD Athlon x2 5000+). My current computer is a Lenovo slim tower. (Intel dual core) Cannot upgrade, Only VGA Port. I bought this second hand only 60$ US.

A new computer shop just opened recently. (A 1.5 hour bus ride from here). They will build one with the parts I want. I am in the Philippines in a very small town.

    Thanks for the help.

No AMD Ryzen is fine with me. I can get an AMD A8 or A6 APU. Can I use Windows 8.1 with this. Performance is not an issue.
I have been using a dual core CPU for the past 10+ years.

Amd A8/6 are not worth buying. You can buy Ryzen 2200G & install win 10 ltsc2019 which is basically win 10 minus apps & app store. You can also buy ryzen 1200 with some cheap graphics card like gt710 just for display output purpose.

I tried Win 10 Pro and ltsb 2016. I don't like it. I will not use it.
Will AMD A8/6 work with Win 8.1? If it will work then for me it is worth it.

AMD has w8.1 display drivers for socket FM2+ A8 and A10 apu's, a8 7600, a10 7890k. Ive been using 880K fm2+) with a GT 710(nividia has 8.1 drivers) and its a damn good system. Socket fm2+ cpus and apus are getting hard to find. Bristol Ridge apus up to A12 dont have an 8.1 display driver.

Issue is availability of mobo plus you would most likely have to discard the whole system if any mobo issue comes up 2-3 years later as I doubt availability of such old socket mobos at that time.Better buy a cheap graphics card with ryzen 1200 which will work fine with win 8.1.

FM2+ stuff is very hard to find and you will need good ddr3 2133mhz ram to give it a fighting chance.

Windows 7 drivers for AM4 motherboards will work on Windows 8.1, provided you either use compatibility mode on the installer or manually install the drivers through Device Manager.
Same goes for Radeon graphics drivers, though you need to modify the HDMI driver through INF modding or fetch the version from the last 8.1 compatible drivers that were released mid 2017.
The Wufuc patch kinda works with the latest updates in getting Windows Update working, but sometimes it still displays the unsupported CPU message. WuaCpuFix doesn't work because it doesn't take into account the newest wuaueng.dll introduced sometime late last year. You best bet is to use the latest non blocking wuaueng.dll, renaming it to something like wuaueng_old.dll and modifying the service wuauserv Parameters key in the registry to point to this dll. This will circumvent the CPU lock 100% from what I've tested.
Either way, the CPU lock only affects Windows Update. You can totally ignore the warning messages it throws out if you disable WU and manually install updates through Dism.
    Hope this post helps :bye1:

I am in the Philippines. I am not in the USA. AMD A8, A6 and A4 is plentiful here. They still sell Dot Matrix Printers.
I don't care about the performance. I need a newer system because my current system has one HDD. I had to remove
the DVD drive to add another HDD. My system has one VGA output which limits my monitor size/quality.
My previous system was home built with AMD Athlon x2 5000+. Lasted about 12 years. Good enough for me.
My current system bought used for $60. Intel Core 2 Duo E8400. Performance wise good enough for me.
I will check on the Ryzen 1200.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will check on everything in Aug and buy in Sept.

The a8 7600 is about half the price of the 7890k and unless you ar ebenchmarking or gaming you wont actually see a lot of difference on ya typical family do it all pc. Get a gigabyte a88x board, crucial ballistix 8gb 2133, tactical or elite, crucial mx 500 500gb ssd, a 2.5 inch wd black 7200rpm hdd  :)

Just running windows 8.1(tweaked ) i dont notice a lot if difference to my i3 8300.

I don't need an ssd. (I haven't seen any here anyway). Only Kingston Ram here. I pick the CPU/APU. 1 brand ram. 1 brand HDD. 1 brand Motherboard.
They build the system. Normally i would build myself but the problems involved in trying to return anything is not worth it.
Very small town and Very small shop in the Philippines. Next closest shop is 10 hour round trip bus ride. That shop is also very small.

Thank You for all the suggestions. My plans for a new computer are on hold for at least another year. I have a very limited budget and other pressing matters have popped up.
I am currently using an Intel core 2 duo (only 75Dollars used). My previous was an Athlon x64 5000+. I don't like Intel but that was the only thing available at the time.
I use Microsoft Works for the database program. My PC had win 10 education and works did not work on it so back to win 8.1. I have not found anything to replace MS Works.

Never say never. Im using windows 7 on 8th gen Pentium G5400(£56) and i3 8300, H310C(R2.0)(£56) chipset with a working igpu driver from Biostar. I am not suggesting anything. Its what i use and i am very hapy with it. Old amd stuff is hard to find now let alone in a years time.

In the Philippines the "Old Stuff" is a lot easier to find than "newer stuff" if you don't live in a major city. I've been considering doing a part-time Ex-Pat to Mindanao so I've spent quite a lot of time Windows 8.1 shopping for a house or lot the last few weeks. If you're going to run Windows 10 having a SSD is Not an option, it's a necessity. AS much time as I've spent on Facebook (SUCKS) Marketplace and Groups, I haven't seen a single SSD advertised for sale. Since your Mom is in The US you might consider asking her to Balikbayon Box you one ?

I bought a second hand Intel system because that was the only thing available. If i had a choice between Intel and AMD. I will take the AMD.
