I am looking to install Windows 10 on my Surface Pro 3 tonight. What is the newest official version that Microsoft has released that can receive all updates that Microsoft releases? If you could also provide a link, that would be awesome, too!
I have a Surface 3 (Atom/10.8" 2015 version) which came with Windows 10 Home x64. I was thinking of upgrading it to Windows 10 Pro x64. Few questions, 1.) Why does it come with 64bit windows when it comes with 4GB ram which can not be upgraded? 2.) How could I go about doing a clean install or upgrade to Win10 Pro and get a genuine ticket or without using KMS activation? ~MC
It came with embedded Windows 10 Home key. Tell him to install preview builds before 10240, say 10130, which does not know about embedded key and activate. Then it will be OK to upgrade to the latest version.
OK. I guess I walked into that one. I just figured I would have to downgrade/clean install win7/daz (im not sure how a surface 3 would behave running win7 let alone drivers). Then upgrade to win10/clean/refresh? Im trying to make a bootable win7 vhd that will allow me to generate a ticket that can be used for win10 activation not sure if this will work with the surface though. As it stands the surface 3 will not let me add a vhd to BCD because of the uefi bios.
You would be better off installing x86 Windows 10. It will actually be faster. Legally you can install home and it should just activate. If you want pro you will have to use KMS or open up your wallet.
No! VHD stands for another device. Dual-boot. Another partition of Windows 7/8/10 preview before 10240 will be oK.
