On my tablet I get that message. What excatly does that mean? Who can be called and how? Thank you...
@ThomasMann Call your cellular provider, get a sim card, and put your tablet put on a plan. Or just use the tablet on wifi. (airplane mode with wifi turned on)
You did not understand my question, which I admittedly made too short. I use that tablet without sim, only with wifi. I never wanted to make phonecalls with it, and now all the time at start up I get this message. And it tells me I can make "emergency phone calls only"? How? And to whom?
In the USA at least, any cellular device can make 911 emergency calls, even without an active service plan. So, if you fall and can't get up, that tablet could still be helpful. ( if you can reach it )
Thanks, but I did not write I do not have a service plan,... I wrote that I have no sim in the tablet, yet the message appears...
No point in discussing it further. Learn to live with it. The message appears BECAUSE there is no sim in the tablet. Installing and activating a sim is the only way to make it go away. Installing a non activated or expired sim will probably just change the message you see.
In situations like this, if you prefer not to call emergency services from your device, you can enable Airplane mode. Note that you can still connect to WiFi as usual, even with Airplane mode activated. Enabling Airplane mode on a device without a SIM card can also help conserve battery life. Even without a SIM card, the device will continue to search for and attempt to connect to mobile networks, which can drain the battery. By switching to Airplane mode, you can prevent this and save battery power.
Deja vu. Airplane mode was already suggested, but you make a good point that it improves battery life. The OP here seems stuck on things like "Why do I see the no sim card message" and "How and to whom can I make emergency calls?"
Danke... endlich mal einer der mein Fragen beantwortet. Except I do not have to learn to live with it I have lived with it for many years, but this has always puzzled me...
Well, in that cse? WHY do I see that sim card message, when there actually has never been a sim card inside ??? And it seems to be a very natural question to ask "what emergencay can I reach", if this is offered... The real answer would have probably been: "In both cases it is obviously a fault in the android OS."
No. Not a fault in android OS, and not a mystery. The tablet was designed to have a sim card in it, so that it could use cellular data when wifi is not available. Since it does not have a sim card, you see the message. You would see the same message if you remove the sim card from an android phone.
It is amazing how so many people are incapable of understanding what that sentence means "no sim card - emergency calls only"! It does NOT say "Put a sim card in " ! It says without simcard all you can do is make emergency calls !!!!
