hello everyone i am using windows 8 pro and i am facing one problem. windows updates never show its icon in taskbar. in windows 7 it shows the icon in taskbar so that user can download and install updates if he has set windows updates to let him know about updates before downloading or installing them. but windows 8 never shows any icon in taskbar. thats why i never get any notification of new updates available. i can only know about updates if i lock the computer or log off or restart the computer because windows 8 shows notification about updates at welcome screen. is it only me who is facing this problem or is it default behavior of windows 8? is there any way to make it similar to previous windows versions? thanks.
It´s default of Windows 8. It doesn´t show the Icon anymore.Windows automatically installs the updates. I don´t miss the icon.
I'm not loosing any sleep over that ancient missing icon. The part I love most is were it doesn't nag at you to restart your computer all the time. You get told once that your computer will restart in 2 days and thats that. I love it
but it creates problem if you have set it to tell you before installing or downloading updates. it doesnt notify me about new updates and i have to manually open windows updates and download them.
I have WU set to inform me about updates before downloading and it works fine. when new updates are available I get a screen prompt about new updates being available and of course the choice of which I want to download and install.
Open Windows Update settings > change the default time (3:00 AM) to the time your computer generally online ... try that.
what kind of screen prompt you get? is it a dialog box or is it new windows 8 style message which is displayed in the middle of screen? i dont want to set it automatic. that might be reason because i have set action center to not monitor windows updates and other things.
now i understand. i have disabled smart screen filter which shows these kind of messages. may be its causing this issue?
Bad decision IMO; especially if you're on Autologon and don't lock the machine ever, you'll never see the notice. They should have kept the desktop notice for folks that are on update notification.
