noob question.. this seems to be the place to ask. dual Xeon overclocking.

    im sure id have heard if it was actually possible, but has anyone even attempted to mod the bios of a decent latest generation dual xeon Motherboard to allow some overclocking? those 12+ core chips are crying out for a bit of extreme cooling and a speed bump.

    i understand the hardware (power) limitations of having a board not designed to be overclocked, but there is almost certainly some headroom there.. just need a way to get it.


    my line of work is in animation and rendering. id love a 24 core workstation, but the lower single thread performance, and massive cost over an overclocked i7, means its much more sensible economically to buy a few i7 gaming machines instead.

    overclocking could tip the balance back a bit.

    plus.. wheres the fun in a machine you cant tweak?
