I want to mod my bios to have a SLIC 2.0 or 2.1 table in it. I have an eMachines that must have been released right before Vista, because the hardware is capable of running it (with the exception of the onboard video but i don't use it). I would like to put a 2.1 table in if i can, but i'm not sure what i need to do. I identified the bios as a Phoenix 6.00PG which is an Award bios. Do i need to get one that is for an emachine or can i use one for any brand with 6.00pg?

you will need to get the bios that is for your motherboard ... you should be able to get that from the emachine support page

The eMachines support page doesn't give an option for a bios download. My model eMachines came with 2 different motherboards. Both are Phoenix but mine happens to be the Award Chipset (which is the one of the 2 that allows flashing) [I have downloaded a BIOS that allows overclocking of my machine, but i just haven't been brave enough to mess with OC'ing.

The motherboard is a FIC K8m-800m, Phoenix bios 6.00PG (as i said, is really an award chipset). So again, i was wondering. Does it HAVE to be an eMachines bios, or would i be able to use 'X' bios that uses the 6.00pg chipset? I'm new to bios mods but i understand the risks and such.

    thanks for the help!

Ok, i searched google a little bit. I searched K8M-800M and someone said that ECS makes the motherboard. But using SIW (System Information for Windows if you're not familiar with it, it gives detailed info on all pc areas. software/hardware etc) it tells me this:

    Property Value
    ManufacturerFirst International Computer, Inc.
    Model K8M-800M
    Version PCB 2.x
    Serial NumberSerial number xxxxxx

    BIOS VendorPhoenix Technologies, LTD
    BIOS Version6.00 PG
    Firmware Version111.101
    BIOS Date 07/26/2005
    BIOS Size 512 KB
    BIOS Starting SegmentE000h
    DMI Version2.3

I went to the ECS website and they DO list it there, and i downloaded a bios for the board that i have.Is this the same board ( ) even tho this is an emaichines computer? In either case i've downloaded it in case i need it.

In another post on this forum "All Slics - tested and not tested" i found this:

    K8M800-M2 – ver. 2.1a
    slp/slic=Asus, pdgbottle please give feedback
    http://slics.myftp.org/ECS_K8M800-M2..._SLIC-ASUS.rar

This is the situation i refer to. Will it matter that this is Asus and my machine is an emachine?

Run AWDFlash and Back up your current AWARD Bios and modify that.
You need to have the Bios that EXACTLY Matches your MB or you will end up either unable to flash it or Bricking that MB.

That sounds a helluva lot easier. And i appreciate that. I'm sure there is, but is there a guide for that?

Thanks so much for the help! Ok, so let me just repeat this with some questions:

I went to the link you gave. I downloaded "Bootable_usb_drive.rar", "HP usb disk format tool" and "AWDFlash."

Do i put AWDFlash in the root directory of the usb drive?

And from what i understand about the command flags, by running "awdflash backup.bin /sy /pn" will ONLY backup my bios for modding?

I can then insert my own SLIC2.1? Am i able to test this bios out with VirtualBOX or VMWare or something to see if it boots? And one last question, If the only way i can check it to try it, will I be able to restore my old one withthe usb drive as well? or should i dig out an old floppy drive just in case?

Again, much thanks to everyone who has educated a power user who doesn't know much about bio modding :)
