Hi all. I have just found an odd problem. I have two PC's, my main one and one i test stuff out on,run KeyGens, etc etc.Well i have been testing out Windows 7 on my second PC,running OK no probs with any of my software. ohh both PC's have had the BIOS flash with SLIC 2.1 Dell info. Of course using their own specific BIOS flashes for each mobo. An Abit and an Asrock. The Asrock is my second PC and i have no bother loading Windows 7 onto it. Today i thought i would take the time and install Windows 7 onto my main PC,the Abit mobo. But i get an odd thing. The disc boots has it should when booting from IDE CDRom, "Windows Is Loading Files" this works nice then it gets to a lovely looking wallpaper screen, you will have seen while installing Windows 7 and thats it. It freezes there. Just hangs and hangs and hangs. Does nowt. I have tried a couple of different Windows 7 sources downloaded from various places and wheather i add OEM details or not i get the same error. Has anybody else come accross this. What have i done wrong. i want Windows 7. Not tried installing Windows 7 over the top of my current Windows Vista. I may try this, then try to install a fresh copy. any ideas ?
Does Vista install fine? I ask this because it could be a faulty DVD drive or hdd. What you might want to try is install from a USB stick.
Install hangs When I install Windows 7 on my 2 Asus P5WDH Deluxe systems the same happens when it gets to that screen, I just walk away and leave it for 10-15 minutes and it finally gets to the next screen. On my later Asus boards P3Q3 Deluxe and P7P55D Deluxe it doesn't hang at all. So at least for me it's a problem on an older board. Have you tried leaving it and see if it will continue ?
Thats a good point. No i have not tried a Vista disc. Niether have I tried from a USB stick. I will try all ofthe suggestions... Thanks for the tips guys...
Seems like patience is a virtue. I tested 7 off a usb. I tested Vista from a disc. I tested 7 off a disc again. All three hung for quite some time then began to run normally. Installs never hung before, i put it down to the BIOS flash ??? But it aint too bad. As long as it works... Cant be bothered to do a fresh full install of Windows 7 just right now. It can wait till another day. Thanks for the help and advice...
the enumerating of devices on older motherboards can cause issues. I've seen installs take forever on some machines then once in the OS it runs fine, just the install took forever. I don't know why it does this something with the BIOS perhaps.
I had an issue with a bios flashed to a newer version. Had these hangs and freeses also. Once booted and logged in, everthing was fine. After reflashing to the older version again, the issue was gone. The bios mod, is it a newer version than you had before ? Cause it could be the issue here...
It could be that your MoBo is too old for windows 7 to have all the chipset drivers automatically installed without custom end user integration. For me the first boot when I install XP is slow as hell but once I install my chipset drivers it is really fast. It could be a similar issue too dude. Just wait and let it do it's thing. When I tried installing vista on my 2 year old MoBo it did the same thing but will advance it you give it time.
Some USB devices have problems with certain motherboards - HP printers give my old ASUS Mobo a headache so I turn them off before installing. Just a thought.
