Can anyone tell me which versions of Server 2008 can be activated? I don't know whether there is any difference between OEM or VOL versions. I have SLIC 2.1 on my MOBO and was wondering if the VOL version can be activated like the OEM version, or is there no difference between these two versions?

    Thanks.

I think the VOL activates through MAK keys only, but you could give the OEM method a try

Volume copies cannot be activated like OEM.
    VLK - Volume Licensing Key
Activation done online via KMS server.
    Types of VLKs:
    VLK:MAK - Multiple Activation Key
VLK:GVLK - Group Volume License Key
VLK:CSVLK - Microsoft Customer Support Volume License Key

Ah, right. So it's best to get the OEM version then, and this can be activated like Win7 using the modded SLIC BIOS method?

    Thanks.

I have experienced no problem in activating Server 2008 installs Volume media with OEM key + cert.

Install without initial typing of key.

Afterwards enter cert + key in elevated CMD prompt using slmgr.

Are we talking about server 08 r2 here or the older server 08?

Hazar, does your Win7 activator work on Server 08 R2 (since that link is for the older 2008 server activation)?

Perhaps I should have made myself clearer and specified Server 2008r2, because that was what the inital question was about..sorry about that.

Is that what everyone else is talking about as well?
