I have two Dell servers running Server 2008. I would like to P2V them and run on Server 2008 Hyper-V on another server.

Both are backed up using Shadowprotect so I planned on doing a hardware independent restore into a new VM.

These are production servers. I know activation will be triggered. How successful has anyone been getting the OS reactivated using the key from the sticker?

    Thanks

This is a production server system. If it were a test system etc I would mod the BIOS.

Your other choices are KMS and MAK.

Concerning legality, an OEM OS can only be installed and run on the OEM hardware it came with. Anything else is violating the EULA.

You can convert it to Volume or Retail by using an appropriate key.
