Rather off topic but.... How does someone like this start out with 6 rep points?
This was touched on back in the '16 stickies' thread. I swear when I signed up I started with 3, then Yen said you start with 5... now this guy has 6?

You're not only one who has seen this, more and more people start now with 6 to 9, it's like a lottery.
    I also started with 3.

I guess I've been here for a really, really, long time....I started when there was no Rep in vBulletin, and then 0 or 1 when it started. Back then I seem to recall YEN (or maybe China4Ever before ancestor joined the forum) saying that they weren't really planning to make use of it, but ended up just leaving it in place anyways....

Btw, as far as the OP, isn't that already posted here somewhere....by hichamontreal himself....

While I cannot speak for everyone, I think the point other people are trying to make is... You shouldn't get rep for nothing.
And while I don't think this should turn into an e-penis measuring contest, the idea of having a rep score is a good idea...
Those who provide good information and solutions get a higher rep rating, while someone who comes and spams or acts like a fool gets a lower (negative?) rating.

I haven't been here long, but I'm pretty sure I started with 3 rep points.
Now I see people who've just joined, have one (spam) post and they have 6 rep.
That makes the whole idea of a Reputation system absolutely worthless.

Even if the board admins have no intention of having it effect anything, the rep rating is a great way for users to identify knowledgeable people and reassure those who are a little weary to follow a particular suggestion.
For example... if two people tell me to download a software to fix a problem, ideally I would try the one suggested by the person with a higher rep. Nothing against the other person, it's just the one with the higher rep is more likely to have proven themselves on the forum.

I started with three..I am not sure I care if I still had three...LOL

I do appreciate feedback though. :D:D

I seriously think rep is overrated though..If it meant something, Yen would be at an astronomical level, and the "modders" that are using the proof of concept tools would still be entry level..The knowledge chasm is immeasurable, but the rep points have it backwards....

Just an opinion, but you can tell who you can trust and who you cant without the anatomy comparison...Ya think????

EDIT: Do you think this thread could get further off topic???

    This is internet.
These stars and reps should not matter.

If it was in real life then this was a thing to discuss!

Totally agreed with you. The whole system looks cheap.
Everyone seem to have good reputation now.

uhm, why don't people start with 0? then it should take like 5 to 10 people repping you on the same post to up you a level...

I think the rep system can be easily cheated, create several fake accounts and use them to add reps to the main one, maybe that's why so many new member have such a big rep.
