Is there only one product key for Office Starter or do OEM's get their own when they buy it? A question to anyone who has got their hands on the OPK, in the OPK is Office Starter activated or is it a trial? (Sure I read somewhere it comes as a trial.) It's just the one we are using on here always comes with the same PK.
The OPK does the following: copies the setup files of office starter to %progamdata% copies the setup files of office retail (single image) to %programdata% installs oobe.msi -> puts office 2010 icon on desktop When you click the office 2010 icon, you get 3 choices: Put in an product key. When valid, installs office 2010 retail Use office 2010 starter. It then installs office 2010 starter Buy an product key online. It redirects you to an online reseller Office 2010 has a default product key, it is always the same. When installed it is automatic activated. There is no trail version available.
But the OEM builder has to pay for each license they put on a computer. Here in Norway the price is around $21 for 10 Office 2010 installations. So $2.1 per version. You can use the trial keys from Microsoft.com on the OPK, but if you don't have a trial key (for Home and Student/Business or Pro) you has to use Starter.
Yep, where I live, it's 5$ per license for Office 2010 Starter. Or 2$ if you buy the PC Essentials license (bing bar, windows live essentials and office 2010 starter) So Microsoft actually forces the system builders to also install bing bar and live essentials...
Well they not really force them to, that is a bit harch to say... they give them the opportunity to pre-install all this for just 2$
And MS has focus on that companies who preload MS Office 2010, can earn good money if they get people to upgrade to full versions. They want the companies who preload Office 2010 OPK, to tell the buyer that Office 2010 Starter is a very reduced version, and that's the best for the customer is to buy a upgrade. So $2 to preload, and they can earn many times that on a sale.
i have downloaded this as an iso on TPB and they uploader wrote x86/x64 but i did not understand how to make it x64.. i clicked one click file that had x64 on it but when it installed and i ran office it was running *32 bit. So this have x64 or not and how to make it install x64?
Not sure who or what gave you the idea that Office Starter had a 64-bit version but it does not. It is a 32-bit app and only a 32-bit app. The Click-To-Run software layer however does have a 64-bit version that gets installed if you are on a 64-bit system but that is it for any native x64 code.
looks like it has some ads built-in. used wireshark to see what it was talking to. rad.msn.com, ads1.msads.net, ads2.msads.net. but even offline shows office 2010 ads, probably baked into the app itself.
