Is there a way to initiate installation of TH2 (1511 build) of Windows 10 through Windows Update? Here is the problem I am facing : My college's proxy blocks access to Windows servers leaving me to use slow (free) VPN. But, since the TH2 (1511 build) is quite big, I am not able to download the build. Historically, I used update archive to update windows. I downloaded the correct build required for the update by using ESD capturing tools but I don't know how to trick Windows into installing it. I tried replacing the '-------.tmp' (currently "BITF718.tmp") file downloaded by 'WindowsUpdateBox' but the file fails to be replaced and the restating the update triggers a new download of the file with a different name. Help me
Why didn't you just download the MSDN/Techbench 1511 iso? Now you have the correct ESD file you simply can use Abbodi1406's ESD > ISO wimlib 11b converter to create the iso, mount the iso and start the setup from the root of the mounted iso (8.1 has mounting options in it, 7 you have to use third party iso mounting software).
Yes, I can do that but I don't want my personal folders, programs and settings to go away. I guess choosing the upgrade option will prevent that, right? And, I downloaded the 1511 MSDN images a week ago but saved them for fresh installs. Actually, I got to know about ESD's today.
I didn't pay enough attention while upgrading via WU, what i can recall is that there are no options what to keep by upgrading via WU, it keeps all it can automaticly.
