Once in a while, when re/starting windows 7 ultimate final, instead of WELCOME, it shows PREPARING DESKTOP. And it wants to create a new profile. I read from an earlier post in march (beta version) of this problem. But I use the final english version and this still occurs. Anybody know what this is (besides windows cannot find your profile!) and/or knows HOW to prevent this??? I have actually NO password and NO additional user accounts. Only 1 user/admin account. Guest is also disabled. Thanks
do you also have occasional issues with GROUP POLICY hangup on startup, or failure to have the screen re-light with wake from sleep? my windows 7 ultimate 7600 build has all the above symptoms intermittently- but not in any discernible patterns. i've got an hp nw8440, ati graphics, core2duo, 4 meg ram, and a readyboost drive on an sd card (which i think might be the culprit, but can't prove it)
If you think it is the ready boost then disable it. Just guessing but you may be on to something with sleep or hibernation. Change your power settings to disable hibernation and sleep. Sleep mode cause problems for me also, I get generic blue screens and sometimes the old dreaded irq not less or equal to zero error. As always upgrade motherboard drivers and video card drivers. EDIT: I know it isn't ideal but for now use easy transfer to backup your user settings and user files on a regular basis.
just 'preparing desktop' at STARTUP.... No, I have only this issue as described. Has nothing to do with hibernation, power state or whatever. PC is off.... turn on....get the 'prepare desktop' thing.... and this once in a while and not always of course. Any help with THIS issue would be appreciated. Thanks
Okay, again: this is a clean, fresh install and was never connected to the internet, so NO viruses unless win7 has one. Hibernation and all the other stuff mentioned, DISABLED. It is a laptop, precision workstation and I was looking for someone that has this issue too and SOLVED it. I am not looking to trouble shoot at this time, since most people don't even have a final version win7 yet. So don't mind.... if someone sees this thread and has had this issue... kindly let me know HOW you solved this. When I seached for it online, the only other person with that issue had a beta in March. So of course people told him to wait until final comes out... well...still the issue. Thank you!
Not sure if the issue describing is the same one I've experienced, a few times I would end up at a "temporary" desktop because of some error message that said my profile could not be accessed. Instantly logging off and logging on again would always fix it. I have no idea at all "why" it was happening. I saw this a few times on Vista, and once so far on 7.
