Do you have any experience at building pc's?
After checking that mini ITX case, I would tend to think that case is not the kind of case a beginner should be attempting to build with, but hey.... looks like it could be fun

You'll have to stick with the Skylake cpu for Windows 7, although with some configuring and effort you can use a Kaby Lake cpu. What are you going to using this pc for? Gamming? Office work....

I'm on the beginner level. I only chose that case because of the design. Can you recommend a case that would be a better choice for a beginner?

S**T!!!! So I will need to move to Win 8.1 to get a better cpu? My laptop has a Skylake cpu in it and I was wanting to go higher.

I mainly do audio and video editing, but I'd like to do some gaming if possible.

theirs nothing wrong with learning...the must important part is for him to make sure he doesnt short out the mobo with the case...a lot of newbies make that mistake.

@MS_User I will definitely get a SSD. I never considered an alienware since dell purchased them. I'll look into it.

@#Joe C: I want to stay below $1,000 if possible. This system would be for gaming. I plan on using my 43" TV as a monitor. The current laptop is struggling to play certain games that I really want to play.

Won't be easy getting a game pc for under 1K. A good GPU for gaming will easily run you more than $400. for just that. Check those prices from Dell on that Alienware Aurora pc for the Nvidia 1080 gpu

Alienware is expensive. We considered Dell.

@Joe C: I'm learning that. The prices are killer. I really can't afford to swing that price at this moment. I'll wait until I can swing that price. I at least need to sell this laptop first if possible.

Get a decent GPU as most of what you will be doing with your rig is GPU-intensive.

An X299 might be overkill for running games
