While i prefers offline image servicing but this guide can gives me advantage to test packages instead of compile each image for installation. This can saves me lot of time with my crap 1.6GHz laptop thanks!
Thanks dobbelina !! Very instructive... On my LTSB 1607, these are the packages left (just 4)... Output of Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Select Name > C:\packages.txt Name ---- Microsoft.Windows.CloudExperienceHost Microsoft.Windows.ShellExperienceHost windows.immersivecontrolpanel Windows.PrintDialog RunTI gave a more comprehensive view...
Thanks for CBSEnum. Didn't know a install_wim_tweak type application with a GUI existed. Can it be used on offline images?
99% of all people using this tool are newbies who just want to chop off undesired Win10 components as it goes yeah, devxexec gives system account but not TI token
People gets more skilled, tools improves over time has always happened. About the /d parameter that seem to me the typical case of a reversed quantum problem... Isn't there until someone observe it. Until now no one had a single problem using the command w/o the /d parameter. Except who tried to exaggerate removing random stuff. Anyway thanks to the OP for the tool that seem nice. The next step should be a tool that exports the packages as cabs while removing them, that would put an end to any package paranoia.
Unfortunatly not completely true. I reported about problems in the 10240 remove components thread. it has a impact. therefore i recommend only using install_wim for selected components you will remove.
As you can see MS is pushing the modularization concept, the packages were less than 2000 on on 10240, they are more than 3000 on 14393. Hopefully this can lead to a more fine grained component rempoval, but for now what we had was more than enough to remove the main sources of concerns w/o any major breakage. Then we can expect some minor glitches, say the defender button still there even if defender is removed.
The first post is pretty confusing for people who have no idea about how the windows images are organized, he is mixing thoughts about the packages (which are the components of the traditional windows image, something which is there since Vista, and the Appx which are the selfcontained "square" apps) They are mostly two different/separated worlds also in the install/uninstall method, with some exceptions like Edge which is somewhat in the middle.
Gosh, when people stop to using these useless tools... Maybe when Microsoft will give them a choise? Just like Apple - gives people a choise to share or not telemetry data at first boot. And why not MS?!
