If I set page files on 2 HDDs, is win7 "smart" about which one to use at given times, or will it default to one and only use the other when first is full?
I have had multi pagefiles Xp would use which ever HD was faster HD 1 - 4 GB pagefile - Win 9x/me (Boot) (Swap file compatible with Xp) HD 2 - 4 GB pagefile - Xp (Boot, System) (8 GB when Using two HD's) Now... Internal HD SATA II - 4 Gb pagefile - Win 7 x64 (boot, System) * External USB HD - 4 Gb pagefile - Win 7 x32 (System) * haven't got it to work yet
I wonder if this carries over to Windows 7. Before I had 3 drives, and put the page file on one otherwise only used for long time file storage. I put another comp together from spare parts and only have 2 HDDs now. It would be nice to think windows would be "smart" enough to use the drive least busy with something else; but who knows? (Somebody here I hope) LOL
Best advice for pagefile in Windows 7....... LEAVE IT ALONE........Windows 7 knows how to manage it much better than we could........messing around with it could only screw things up.. my 2 $
