I have happily used Avast Free for years but I am now searching for an alternative. Recent upgrades to Avast have created a problem, my system is regularly faltering, a pause of a few seconds every time I try to carry out a task. I look down at the Avast Symbol in the task bar to see it spinning, I wait impatiently for some movement and low and behold as soon as Avast stops my PC leaps back into action Bit Defender is good but the company give you no control over the product so that's a no no for me Will try Avira, AVG and possibly Panda next.
Hi my2cents I always use Avast Clear and similar tool to remove AV software, a few disasters in the past taught me this trick. Comodo has been running on my system for a few hours now and the "Condor Moments" have gone, everything is smooth and pleasant once more. I wont write Avast Off, it has served me well in the past and it will always be on my short list to try. As you rightly say every system/installation is different and throws up new compatibility issues. My system only has a problem with the latest version of Avast, a six month old installer I have installs and runs fine, its only when I hit the update button that the problems materialise. I could try a fresh install with the latest installer but as Comodo seems to be playing nicely I will stick with it for now.
Also Panda Anti Virus clould is one of the good Virus guards.. it's my favorit beside Webroot Secure Anywhere... Thanks. give it a try..
@Kim100, Thanks for your response. Hey, if Comodo is doing the job for you then stick with it! So, its the latest avast version that is causing you issues; eh? Hmm... there was an issue with a few rigs where people were manually trying to update their definitions and it was getting stuck in the 'sending stats" mode before updating. However, in most cases the definitions would eventually download but it took 4 or 5 minutes in some cases. Anyway, I thought they fixed that issue because I haven't seen any new reports of such behavior since the last 2 point issues were installed (eg, since 2014.0.9.2016). Anyway, good luck with Comodo! You seem to be well informed in the AV arena; however, if you ever decide to work on your Avast issue, I'll be looking for you over at the Avast forums. my2cents
cloudav.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Sick-of-popups/613339-15157 cloudav.ideascale.com/a/dtd/No-nag-screen-or-option-to-tick-it-off-please/614618-15157 so far seems good and no nagging popup appears, but given their recent history of enabling nag popup silently without giving user an option, I'd take a step away from panda for now. nothing wrong with it, but no reason to trust their attitude either.
