    Okay lemme check...

    Code:
    md5sum pmagic_2020_08_23.iso
    ab1ab7636dbca82e1dc389a67e38d8cd pmagic_2020_08_23.iso
yep it matches ... unsure what you're talking about. A bit may have flipped during your download process?

    I got this:

    CRC32: A13ED301
    MD5: 59670204E4E4649F745EA34DEE29CFD7
    SHA-1: 7BE22B09DA5ACBB61ED2E16F3B9C1FDB1FBA8457

    787 MB (825,229,312 bytes)

    Very strange.
I will DL again to be sure.
    Will post back.

    Ok now I got this:

    CRC32: 2A694C58
    MD5: 4CD9D71C94EF5042D50B5CD74379A507
    SHA-1: 4477FAD097E0B856CFDD5197376D1E62ECD4DC52

    Same file size.
    ????

I did a binary compare and there are a huge number of changes.
They both open fine in Winrar and UltraISO. No visible differences.

Downloaded a 3rd time and got different hashes again.

    CRC32: 26DBFB9E
    MD5: 239E4B11D26926292A58A56C68FC179A
    SHA-1: FC97F5085B250A87963B419EB5AE0ABFC5533338

    Same file size.
    Something very weird.
Never seen this in 30 years.
    -------------

    Used curl twice
    Got different hashes each time.
    All different in all cases.

    ----------------
I downloaded it from a file sharing site and the hashes matched.

    Thanks.
I did find 1 site rapidgator that hashes matched.
I will try the one you posted next time if needed.

Hi t94xr, I can confirm that my downloaded copy produces different checksums:

    Code:
    pmagic_2020_08_23.iso
    825229312 bytes (787 MiB)
    CRC32: DC829EB7
    CRC64: 1670FA122D70D5B4
    SHA256: EE2E71690CBB3F50B17183D36066E972B7DF20E78F36A9A367E98960375CB309
    SHA1: 782ACF3D5F94C06C8ECD5B956BF26BDCDFA8F1DF
    MD5: 175E93AD09B9B35B31394491CBFDE88E

Comparing with the ISO with the correct checksums, the differing files are:

    • scsi.cgz
    • vmlinuz
    • unicode.pf2
    • BOOTX64.EFI
    • sgd2.gz
    • super_grub2_disk_standalone_x86_64_efi_2.04s1.EFI
    • ohci.mod
    • part_acorn.mod
    • parttool.mod
    • bootx64.efi
    • PMAGIC_2020_08_23.SQFS
    • bzImage
    • fu.img
    • initrd.img
    • m.img
    • partmap.lst
    • parttool.lst
A binary compare of parttool.lst shows a string of zeroes in the bad copy:

    Code:
    Bad: <bh:00><bh:00><bh:00><bh:00><bh:00><bh:00><bh:00><bh:00><bh:00><bh:00><bh:00><bh:00><bh:00><bh:00><bh:00><bh:00><bh:00>
    Good: msdos: msdospart

Can you please add its md5 sum as well? Thank you in advance.
Also, for the first time in years (if not ever), I am not able to find it on torrent! I resorted to some ddl site to get it :(

Imho, parted magic has changed from a rescue-based distro to a common one. The only difference between an everyday distro, e.g. ubuntu, is that parted magic can't be installed on the hdd.
Also, today's iso is like 10 times bigger than 6.7, the last one before that new versioning scheme of "pmagic_year-month-date" that was introduced in 2011.
    Code:
    --- /mnt/Public/ISOs/distros ---------------------------------------------------
        1.5 GiB [##########] pmagic_2020_10_12.iso
      180.2 MiB [# ] pmagic-6.7.iso

I am seriously considering ending this bi-monthly "chase" of releases, starting from this one, as I can't afford the space on my NAS for just the likely event of a need for a rescue-based distro... for me or a friend's computer... Thanks to both of you for your replies!

If you do want a 32bit version in case of an old pc, keep the one that was released before August 2020. Other than that, imho, there is no need to keep old versions around.

Hi everyone, I need your valuable advice. I was under the impression that current (and older) Parted Magic ISOs would include file recovery tool(s) that would scan an HDD for removed partitions, scan everything and find deleted files. Unfortunately this is not the case, it seems (nor the free tool you posted earlier @oldsh_t unfortunately) any idea what I could use? Parted Magic doesn't contain the tools necessary to undelete files (like good old Hiren's ISO) so your advice is very very welcome. Thank you!

Thanks @jim_p and @TigTex for your help. I didn't see Parted Magic have photorec to be honest. Even had to revert to last years ISO because the recent one changes A LOT to my own disappointment (I think I will abandon getting new bloated versions, as TigTex said, it became already a Linux bistro and no more a real Swiss Knife tool). I need to recover a partition that was deleted by the Windows re-install feature, and on top of that, scan for deleted files too. I know TestDisk on my Mac, it can recover partitions but doesn't seem to scan for deleted files. I will try photorec or qphotorec and let you know if we manage to do anything useful. For now, to me personally, Parted Magic has "sailed" to other worlds :D
