Will need to check this out. Been hoping for a reliable and consistent fix for this for ages.

Didnt seem to work for me.....still crashed during last part of setup ie) setting timezone/printer etc.

Does it matter what settings you use in VirtualBox for the VM?

    CPU is AMD 5950x

The patch works for me, but is possible that a speed monster like your CPU introduces more problems.

Use the old trick, install virtualbox 5.2.45 or 6.0.24, and disable the VT acceleration for the W9x machine.

That option is removed from VBox 6.1.xx

You can try also vmware 12.5.9 and disable the VT there (set acceleration to binary translation in vmware parlance)

Or you can use an emulator like dosbox rather than use a virtualizator like vmware or vbox, is more than enough to get good performances, even in machines much slower than yours.

  7. Helped with 98 SE installation on AMD. Finally, no errors at all! As it should be...
