One of our office PC is restarting every 5-10 minutes since a week. We took off the ram and cleaned it off, but same problem exists. What to do ? It just automatically restarts soon as the the desktop view is reached or even while working. How to debug ?
Repair the OS! Run the Repair Function from Installation DVD! You could try to go into the Security Menu while start the machine using the F8 function and chose the repair but the may not works, it's better to use the DVD!
Its a licensed version of Home Basic 7. Shall I simply note down the license key from MY COMPUTER screen and reinstall Home Basic and paste the license while installations screen ??
If your PC restarts before you can disable the "auto-restart on error" feature, then boot to Safe Mode and give it a try. Whilst in Safe Mode, you could also do a System Restore. BTW, you might want to clean your other add-on cards as well (e.g. GFX, soundcard, etc.). The problem could be caused by a driver issue, so try to recall if anything was installed/updated recently that may have given you this headache.
first you have to check why its restarting some times heat if your processor fan not working also its happens
Repeated restarts are often hardware related. You might have the motherboard mounted over a mounting nut incorrectly. Alternatively, computers love to restart if they are very hot. You might want to make sure all the fans are working and check the temperature in the bios. Anything over 70c would be definite cause for alarm. Operating temps are usually in the 25-60 range.
For me: 1. Excessive heat due to accumulated dust over the heat sinks and fans. 2. HDD issue, such as a bad sector exactly at the time Windows gets into desktop. 3. Power supply fail. Recommendation: Firstly do a thorough cleaning of the hardware and if problems persists then diagnose anything else.
It does sound like a hardware problem. I would add bad motherboard capacitors to the list of possibilities. With the case open, look for any bulging or leaking capacitors.
