Hiding the update kept the win10 nags away until now. It keeps coming back now, so consider manual updates, if you don't want to switch your OS.
Simply unchecking this box will not stop some updates that sneak onto a machine by looking "important" in WU. Do not think for a second that all this Win 10 nagware and telemetry crap only appears under the "recommended" banner. There was one in the Dec 2015 updates (KB3112343) that was labelled as an important "security update" but was really all about setting a target machine up for a Windows 10 invasion to come. Just Google "Infoworld" and "3112343" - it's all about Windows 10 setup... Unchecking this box does help to keep some things at bay but the only way to truly ensure NOTHING gets in - is to set Wu to "check for updates but let me choose whether to download/install them". Leaving any Windows 7 box set to Install Updates Automatically - is just asking for trouble now.... Sonic.
I hate to say it but install 7 enterprise haha. No nags for win10 because Win7/8 Enterprise is not able to get the free upgrade to 10. I run 7 Enterprise on my work laptop that is a non-domain configuration and I don't get any nags whatsoever lol.
Has Microsoft released any updates pertinent to Windows 7, other than Windows 10 nags? If not, then why not turn updates off altogether and use the Simplix update package? If so, could those people who are "in the know" please discuss them here?
they will be discontinuing support for windows 7 that's why they are doing this I dunno why u are all wearing an aluminum foil hat unless you are into child porn or something who cares? edit: if you are so concerned write your own damn linux build and stop using microsoft.
+1 - I have started moving all our machines over to Enterprise as well. They needed to be rebuilt anyway Sonic
IDK what where that came from but for me it has nothing to do "Privacy" issues lol. My laptop was meant for 7 and runs better with 7 then with 10 lol.
Windows 7 support officially expires in 2020 - so I can and will use Win 7 (without incident) for at least another 5 years. Whether or not Microsoft wants me to move is none of their business. They should focus on building an OS people are actually excited about (and want) rather than resorting to the back doors tactics they have employed lately. The more they try to force Win 10 upon me - the more I will dig in and ensure that my Windows 7 environment is never compromised. Sonic.
@SonicMojo: Same here. For what I'm doing, it makes no sense for me to install an OS that is currently going through growing pains. Perhaps when Windows 10 is mature, Then I'll tinker with it. XP and 7 went through the same vetting / growing process, and they both turned out to be -awesome- operating systems. So let's see where Windows 10 winds up... @oldsh_t: Thanks for the info, and happy holidays.
I decided that I'm going to go back to Windows 8.1 because I have again audio issues in Windows 10... I know that my laptop is old but MS start to break the audio since august in my pc, they fix it with some update but now again I have some issues
