    not sure if u can flash 2.0 without some troubles.. as you have 1.22
    might be best to get backup.bin made before you try anything..

    Sure LatinMcG, I will stick with V1.22 then, is there any guides to modify the bios ROM file? I could probably load it with hex editor and tweak it if there are tutorials available.

    I don't need SLIC or windows oem key, just want to enable advance menu, manual on/off GPU.:worthy:

    • Its more feasible to use DSDT patch to disable the NVIDIA card, as turning it off via firmware depends on the internal architecture & may not be always possible.
    • As LatinMcG said, you may face issues to upgrade from 1.x to 2.x bios. But the protection can be easily bypassed & I would also recommend it to get better UEFI boot support.

    Try to flash using the USB fat32 bios.cap 2.03, off power and press Fn + Esc method, doesn't seem to work,
    ERROR 235 - OEM check failed from BIOS service!

    BIOS downloaded from here,

    WinFlash32.exe /bcp /sd /cvar /v /endkey /silent /bbl /cac /file BIOS.CAP

    @LondonBridge

    By 'bios update application', you should take VA410218.exe itself. On the other hand, if you're already on 2.x, then you can update to subsequent versions directly.

    @LondonBridge

    Thanks for the feedback. The guide only works for Insyde firmware, but your one is using Phoenix SecureCore Tiano firmware.

    Hi everyone. I'm new here and I've been reading this discussion and trying some of your suggestions in order to flash the newer 2.18 BIOS, however, I haven't been successful. In my Aspire V5-471 I can't access the advanced menu. I'm pursuing the same objective as @LondonBridge which is to install Clover. Can you guys please clarify how exactly did you run WinFlash64 (64 in my case, couldn't run the 32 one) and update the BIOS so I can have access to the advanced Menu? I've been trying and currently my laptop screen is black after Windows told me it was going to "shut-down and do a capsule update" (trying the WinFlash32.exe /bcp /sd /cvar /v /endkey /silent /bbl /cac /file BIOS.CAP that @LondonBridge mentioned. WinFlash64 in my case). Any help would be appreciated. If you need any more info about my system, please ask.

    In this BIOS version I can only access options such as Main: Quiet Boot, Network Boot, F12, D2D Recovery, Wake on Lan, SATA Mode, Security: Set Supervisor Password, Set User Password, Set HDD Password, Password on Boot. Then only boot priority and that's all. I have no clue in when exactly I lost every other options I was able to access. I can also see that when PC boots up (with quiet boot disabled) it shows System Bios Shadowed and Video BIOS shadowed

    Aspire v5-471
    16GB ram
    Core i5-3317U
    Current BIOS version: 1.22
    KBC: 1.21

    Exact same issue on exact same notebook. It would be nice to know how to jump to version 2. Any ideas?

    Thanks!
