i have desktop PC HP Oem home basic 32 bit
i want to reformat to restore to factory settings

but i cannot boot onto factory hard drive

i'm just confused with my drive letters
when i get in to my Windows Recovery Environment
My hp drive or the Os Drive is letter D
and my Factory image is letter C

while in my Desktop or in the disk management my hp drive turns to Letter c while my Factory Image is letter D

    why my Drive letters change

is this the reason why i cannot boot up my Factory Image hard drive

for those who have recovery Partition or windows 7 HP oem original DVD
    please post please

Its normal for drive letters to change when you boot to recovery environment. But that should have no bearing on factory recovery. Click on Start button and under all programs, see if you can locate Recovery manager (it may be in the HP folder) or do a a search for recovery manager. That should have an option for factory restore.

    @venu
    my is not normal
why is that the WinRe considered my Local Disk D as my OS DRIVE which my original Os drive is Local Disk C

The hard drive is split up into 2 x partions recovery and the windows o/s. the recovery partion is the first partion on the disk, so undfer winpe or winre it will so as c: letter always.

    try this
1.Right-click on "Computer" icon and select manage.
2.This will launch the Microsoft Management Console.
3.On the left side of the MMC, click on "Disk Management" and it will show you all of the partitions.
4.Right-click on the "HP Recovery" partition and select "Mark as Active Partition."
5.When the warning prompt appears, select "Yes" - Reboot and it will automatically boot into the Recovery Manager (without pressing F11).
