please help to recover HD space !

    i am running WIN7. last week i had some hardware porblem so my comp was unsuccessfully booted several times . finally i fixed the problem. but then i noticed that my Harddisk space was reduced by 3gb. i used all the disk cleaners like DISKMAX and CCLEANER and registry cleaner..but the prob is still there.Can anyone help.....in XP it used to be there the extension .chk i suppose?? please suggest ways to get back that space.

    I am not sure but try cleaning up problem report and solution logs. I know they got pretty damn big in vista at least. I would also disable system restore, then re-enable it. This will free up a lot of storage because it deletes the old restore points. Your pc may have created restore points because of your issue man.

    Disk space is probably marked as unrecoverable.
    Otherwise a format should bring back those 3 gigs.

    try chkdsk with all options enabled, should do a 5 phase task to see what happens there too if nothing else fixes it.

    Install tuneup utilities 2010. there's a free trial.

    Sure it's not due to recovery points or shadow copies? If everything is working, you can disable it, and then re-enable it - that will wipe out all previous recovery points and shadowed files.

    hello guys i have 2gb of RAM installed....and can you help me or tell me the path where is that system restore thing...:confused:

    Thats what i also had in mind. :cool:

    Go to config -> system -> Advanced system config (right bar) -> system security.

    You guys are super duper genius:D hell lot of space was recovered........9gb.....and my advice to all.....:D please always listen to pro experts in this forum..if ur facing any problem like this:D after all ":):):)why to fear when experts like you are near :D:D:D"

    also check out C:\Users\Your User Name\AppData\Local\Temp

    and delete files from there:)
