    aren't you concerned about telemetry?

    1) Microsoft whitelists their websites in their files. HOSTS file listing won't stop the traffic
    2) This is like erecting a dam instead of turning off the faucet

You can turn off the spying by changing a few registry master switch keys

These ip's are only useful if you are blocking them in the router...
Microsoft has hard coded their ip's into their dlls, so basically host file blocking is useless...

I have also blocked them in the router, but what I wanna know is which of these entries might break the functionality of windows rather than simply blocking telemetry, like I experienced with the blocking of apps.skype.com and officliceclient...... Now I'm not sure I can trust these entries......

also, noone answered my question why all the MS Edge sites included in these entries? how is that telemetry ? seems like it would block MS Edge entirely

I used a list on my router which included the above, but was more comprehensive -- 784 entries...
It doesn't break windows...but if you need to do certain tasks that connect to MS sites, you would need to disable the blocking...
For example, Windows updates, Office updates, etc...

You are asking about a MS program that needs to connect to the internet to do it's job ;)
Will it break if you block it --- most certainly
Will it transmit telemetry data if it works --- what do you think ?

It's clear that if you wish to block telemetry, don't use MS apps at all...
Shouldn't be difficult as you have so many better alternatives...

    You can try PeerBlock.
While it hasn't been updated in a while, and the docs leave much to be desired, it's not that difficult to get it up and running, and it is constantly blocking Microsoft sites, as well as a lot of other questionable sites, like the DoublePimp Network.

It's much more active in Win-10 than it was in Win-7.
It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing.

    PeerBlock doesn't work on Win10...
The ways to block telemetry are clear and are well documented here...
    The OP's question is different...

Well, I would have to disagree with you that PeerBlock doesn't work with Win-10.

Here's the output of PeerBlock this afternoon on my Win-10 installation.
There were 2,767 attempts to 58 unique IP address. Lots of them were to Microsoft.

The OP could have taken the list he was going to put in the Hosts file, and created a list for PeerBlock and they would all be blocked.

PeerBlock is a dead project that hasn't been updated in 2 years
