    till tonight I had a legit W8 pro with legit serial, I stupidly installed the media center using a friends serial, it worked for this but it s*** the W8 validation which now requests a serial number and refuses the one which was valid until now... and the deskop default wallpaper shows a "windows 8 professionnal with media center version 9200" watermark.
    Is there any way to return back to the previous W8 pro with my legit serial ?
    thx a lot in advance.

    would it not be easier to
    1. uninstall the KEY his friends WMC key....
    2. Reboot an see if it is now only Win8 Pro
    3. if #2 is yes, then insert the Proper KEY which is his key...
    4. Reboot and see if Activated and genuine again....

    if this does not work then he would have to as stated in Post #2

    Neither uninstalling WMC-Key nor disabling via Features will solve this Problem. Downgrade or fresh install unfortunatly are the only options. You cannot uninstall WMC :furious:.

    If you don't format, it will save your perssonal files, documents in windows.old folder.

    You don't need to fresh install..
    Save this into a blub.reg and run it, then just start your setup and choose to upgrade > keep settings, files, apps. no need to do a fresh install.

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]
    "EditionID"="Professional

    Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...

    Thought it should be:
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]
    "EditionID"="Professional"
    "ProductName"="Windows 8 Pro"

    Its exactly the same method used to get from Windows 7 Enterprise to get converted to Windows 7 Professional :)
