What's your experience for the moment: Does Windows8 get better with 8.1? Vote matching your personal oppionion ...
They gave us the start button, I don't think you can customize what is in it, at least not by simple means, but its something...M$ falls short of the goal, but at least its a step in the right direction. Off topic: WALK ON HOME BOY!
So far 8.1 seems pretty good. Didn't really have a problem with 8 though, aside from lack of Metro customization. I don't use Microsoft services, and I have to have UAC disabled (I always end up getting stuck somewhere just because I didn't give something admin rights), so no Metro apps for me. Can't help but think I'm missing out a bit though, but meh... But yeah, no complaints on 8.1 for now.
the Upgrade Process is not a good idea, for sure it's stable with a fresh install, but upgrade failed for several people here. Upgrading windows was NEVER before a good idea. I even like the start butten due to the fantastic right-click options
I don't see any *real* improvement frankly. The last beta with no start button was just fine - the Start8 is better anyway. {Remove this one please}
Can't see any improvement. MS is still trying to make a case for the touch screen/ no mouse bitty - and that just will not get in with some applications (not apps). Can't see a business that's been using XP going to this or any touch screen at this time. May wait forever with Win 7 - until a good version for Desktops comes along. Just my 2 whatevers...
A misleading poll for to compare an final OS with an Beta of an Upgrade OS! For to do an "objective" compare, you could never use an "half cooked" peace with and deep fried one! That's just my 2 Satangs!
It is no misleading poll since everybody knows what we compare here....it's no secret. Wasn't w8 RTM 'halfbacked' as well?
thanks, I voted for "Don't know" cause it looks good but feels bad. Maybe caused by the upgrade process only? I recognized failures between drivers < > kernel and I can't fix it. That's my oppionion for the preview yet, and hopefully it will change with the final release.
nexus76 & Yen: You've your opinion and I've mine, nothing wrong with that! I installed 2 8.1: first a clean install of 64bit second and upgrade from 9385 to 9431 32bit with both no problems! Still I wouldn't even think to compare them with and older final because those are "short" living OS's which are middle in development and nobody knows what the final will be! If you think different, fine, so it be!
No problem with installing New/Clean neither Upgrade. Ok, on the same machine I was done the upgrade yesterday, I installed a clean as well on an other HDD: NO Problems. Also, till now, I didn't get any problems with Apps, all working just fine and some are quite old. I didn't use any games on that installations as I normal just use Flight Sim's on my home machine, nothing else as of games. So here I couldn't tell anything.
lol .. you are using a flight simulator, that's cool. Now NSA knows that you probably will fly a 757-200 into a sky scraper one day. Buddy be careful and don't throw your passport out of the window prior to impact
No prob. Btw: I haven't voted since I never try it. With "Wasn't w8 RTM 'halfbacked' as well?" I wanted to mention that an OS (development) is never 'finished'. 'RTM' is just an event on a self determined schedule, it's no predicate about the quality of a product.
Er.....! I could frankly tell that I never had problems with Windows 8 Pro RTM which still run on my main machines. That's why I wouldn't say it were just "half-backed"! Beside I would never tell that any software is 100% complete and clean! You're right with that any development of any software will never finish, the nature of the beast! To compare and an Beta (even not an Release Candidate) with an final product which runs some time already, is IMO just misleading while any comparison of would be misleading in some means if not used the exact same hardware. Again, that's my personal opinion. Even I didn't have problems so far with 8.1 now, I wouldn't tell it's better or not than the older one, still to early for that!
