I have noticed a severe lag in windows 7 when transferring files to usb flash drives. On my xp and vista partitions its perfect..but only in 7 do I have extreme lag. Anyone else notice this? Even just deleting files off USB flash drive takes foreverr.
It could have to do with write-caching. Under Windows XP and Vista, did you have to choose the "safely remove" option before disconnecting the drive? If I'm not mistaken, Windows 7 optimizes removable devices for quick-removal by default, disabling write-caching. If you choose to optimize the drive for performance instead, performance should improve noticeably. I would also perform a reformat of the drive if you can incase there is something amiss with the MFT of the drive causing a slowdown.
