Hey guys, I'm having a rather bothersome connectivity issue. Basically my computer (Vista SP 2) sees my (wired) Internet connection but cannot actually connect to anything.

    The details:
-pings to local computer and loopback IP work.
-pings to websites do not go through; the computer is unable to find the host.
-pings to the IP addresses of websites work.
-other computers are able to use the same connection to access the Internet fully.

    Any thoughts? Thanks!

Also. I tried pinging the DNS server and the packets all timed out.

You have malware most likley, you describe the symptoms of a DNS trojan, often accompanying fake antivirus software and some other current attacks (some pdf/java explots currently). You might find you cannot run antivirus or security software or update it.

The trick is to remove the harddrive and clean it with a top detection rate antivirus on another computer (or a bootable AV disk like kaspersky) then boot into safe mode, install additional scanning software and update and run scans in safe mode. then boot into windows and finish cleaning it and restoring system files as needed.

This assumes no firewall , etc.
