I've run across a unique situation, and I was wondering if any of the collective minds here have a solution. Is it possible to display the Network Icon, that is normally contained in the System Tray, on the desktop? I have my taskbar set to auto-hide, and sometimes I want to check the status of my Network Connection. So, I'd like to have that icon, or even a program that provides some sort of visual feedback as to the state of my network connection. I could sure use some ideas here... Thanks!
Settings -> Personalization -> Themes -> Desktop Icon Settings. This is in Insider Preview Build 14352 so it may be different for your build. But look and you shall find.
I believe I did not express myself clearly. I am not looking to display the 'normal' network icon on my desktop, via the hide\show desktop icon settings... That is easy to do, however it's just an icon, it does not show the network status. What I'm looking for is a way to display the Network Connection Status Icon on my desktop, a totally different animal from the one you speak of. Thanks anyway!
Well, thank you both for the suggestions, however it seems you both point to programs that run in the system notification tray, such as NetSpeedMonitor and the other one.... I already have the default icon in that area that works well. If you read my op, I'm looking for an icon that will reside on my desktop. Not a program such as Rainmeter or any of the other similar programs, but just a simple notification icon that would be a twin to the one we all have in the system tray... I'm thinking that this is an impossible desire, however...
The one all have in the System Tray is not animated at all and didn't give any information about the traffic etc.! Tha small apps I posted about is just doing that and would finnaly not need any interaction as just hover the Mouse Curaor over it to get that infos you maybe looking for! That's even better then one located on Desktop, me think! For to use one on Desktop, would all times need some actions, is THAT what you want?
The main point is that I do NOT want another one in the system tray, I already have one, as do we all unless we disabled it... I want one on the desktop, that shows at a glance the connection status.... The one we all have in our system trays does not require interaction... we just look at it and know if all is well. That's what I'm aiming for. A very bizarre request, I realize, and one that doesn't seem possible... But as I said, thank you anyways!
OK, I thought of another way to express what I'm looking for. I'd like an icon, or program, or widget, that will just show me at a glance if my network connection is alive or not. Even a simple red light for not connected, or green light for connected would be fine. I don't have a need to see how many TCP connections are active, what my IP address is, what my upstream or downstream speed is, a graph of speed history, none of that... Just want to be able to see at a glance if the network connection is working correctly, or if it has problems. Like the system tray icon... you look at that, and if it's clear, you know all is well. If it has that yellow ! triangle in the corner, you know there is some sort of problem.... Hope that more clearly expresses what I'm after.
You can see the yellow triangle in system tray and it's more comfortable than the desktop that can hide by windows/programs/apps.
Simple fact is, there isn't any animated Apps Icon which shows the Network activity on desktop, AFAIK, that possible only within the System Launch Bar! You maybe could run a Apps with a minimized screen on desktop which will show the activity, but a animated Icon only! There is a apps called NetWorx v. 5.5.x google for it and tkae a look at it, that maybe could do what you like!
Thanks, I'll do that. I also agree with you. It seems like what I want just does not exist. No problem.. UPDATE: NetWorx is, once again, only a system tray utility, not a desktop utility. Thanks anyway!
