While trying to upgrade from Windows 8(x64) to 8.1 (x64)... (not booting through USB/DVD) - I get the error message "You can't install Windows 8.1 because your processor doesn't support PrefetchW" I have Pentium Core 2 Duo 2.8Ghz... On many sites I read Windows 8.1 should run anyways..... Any idea why wont it install.
Windows 8 64 bit works fine .... so 8.1 has a different requirement altogether....? I mean Intel Core 2 Duo
Core 2 Duo what ? E4xxx ? E6xxx ? E8xxx ? Desktop ? Mobile ? there are dozens of C2D Have your read wikipedia article ? So no, it's not the same for x64
I get exactly the same problem! Went to upgrade to 8.1 today (I have Windows 8 Pro with Media Centre) and the Upgrade Assistant said I couldn't as my processor (Pentium D 820 2.8GHz) doesn't support PrefetchW. I downloaded MS's CoreInfo tool and it says it DOES support PrefetchW (and PAE, NX, SSE2, LAHF, SAHF, CMPXCHG16B too!). So, according to CoreInfo my Pentium should support 8.1 but the Upgrade Assistant disagrees. I checked my BIOS too and "Execute Disable Memory Protection Technology" (Dell BIOS A05) IS enabled! Any thoughts on what I can do to get upgraded to 8.1? Thanks
