Hopefully someone might be able to help me, kinda pulling my hair out now (what I have left anyway!).

Last night I upgraded a Windows 7 Pro install to Windows 8 Pro and activated by KMS (happy days!).

The problem is now that I cant seem to upgrade to 8.1. I have managed to install with the default Pro key up to a certain stage at which point during an expected reboot it returns me to the Windows 8 desktop and says that a problem occurred and Windows 8.1 cannot be installed.

Has anyone else experienced this before or know how to solve the problem?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Great, I'm glad I was proven correct, even though I don't use either 8 or 8.1.

You can and I have just finished doing it. Install kept failing until I removed my 2 hotplug drives. Sailed through the install after that with the default GVLK and then activated by KMS.

What meant was you can't upgrade using the Windows Store, if you used a KMS key, you have to upgrade using a VL version of Win8.1 Pro or Enterprise iso. Though I would recommend a clean install, cause lots of users have had problems with upgrading.

Thats fine (and what I myself would normally recommend) unless you have everything working just the way you want it. Lots of different programs doing exactly what I need and want. All is well now, working fine :)
