    Hello :)
I am having a little bit of a weird issue here.
I've got an HP xw4600 workstation with a single SATA HDD and I'm trying to install Windows XP Pro 64-bit on it, but the computer isn't having any of it.

I burned an ISO of Windows XP which I found here on MDL and changed the BIOS setting from RAID to AHCI.

The computer seems to have an ICH9 SATA controller, so I got the driver files from Intel and put them on a floppy disk. When the installation begins, I press F6 and install the ICH9 driver. I've tried the ICH9R but it causes a BSOD. Then, the Windows XP setup actually reads and shows the hard disk allowing me to format it and begin copying the files for setup. The first indicator that something is wrong is the fact that after it copies the files, the setup does not restart the computer. It just hangs on "Restarting your computer..." but it never actually restarts. Then, when I boot it up, the setup "continues" but hangs on "Approximately 39 minutes left..." and stays like that forever.

I've once managed to get Windows XP 64-bit installed on a Precision 490 with SATA HDDs, but I forgot how I did it. I have also tried a different CD and CD drive, which had no effect. I believe this is not hardware-related.

Turns out the cause was the HDD. The setup works after I replaced it.
    Thanks just the same.
