Hi. I have a laptop with vista 32 bit. I bought yesterday windows 8 and downloaded on the pc. I burned it on a dvd and begun the installation. The installation suddenly stopped at 56% and said that failed. I tried it again and it did the same thing. any help?

maybe you can try to burn it to a 4GB usb if there is one available. Your dvd may jusbe corrupted, I see it happen quiet often. Also, make sure you have the right edition for your laptop, 32 bits in your case, and that you boot off the usb or dvd for clean install.

Just arrange the boot priority of the USB stick in your bios as the first boot item. When the entire installation is done, you can rearrange it to default values so that your harddisc is first boot item

If he do that, the laptop/PC will start from USB if one is inserted an bootable, even while installing Windows 8. Best let it as default and use the Bios Boot Manager while pressing the appropriate F-Key. Check Manual of Laptop or MB for to get the right F-Key.

    On PC they're mainly:
    1. F2 NEC
    2. F8 Asus
    3. F12 Gigabyte
    4. F11 most other PC's

    For Laptops:
    1. F2 NEC, others
    2. F12 Acer
    and, and, and!

You can add F10 (for HP's) to that list too. As for the problem,I wonder what could cause the thing to fail at 57% aside from bad install media... Perhaps a hardware fault (which is possible given the age of the laptop)..
@OP can you give us the model and manufacturer of your machine,so we're better able to diagnose your problem?

The problem could be an burn failure at the DVD! Depend on the Brand (if any) of Media used, the Burner DVD or BD and the Burn Speed. For the burn speed, it's depend on the quality of the media used, some you could burn wit 6, 8 or more speed and other better burn just with the lowest you could, for example 2.4 speed!

I still keep an old Pioneer IDE DVD burner which let me burn with 2.4 speed for to burn OS and also MS Office DVD's.

And to the OP: please post all details about your hard- and software used if you really expect help.:)

@vymrdal: it wasn't hopeless after all because Greeks can manage it. I don't know your nationality but it is not right to show the greek flag upside down!
