Hi I have genuine copy of Windows 7x64 home premium I bought years ago. I have installed it again yesterday on spare partition thought I will try to install windows 10 and see how it works I currently use windows 8.1 I don't touch that one. Windows 10 iso that I downloaded I got it from here can't post link, got it from Microsoft website I downloaded single language version x64 Windows 7 is fresh install and no updates only service pack 1 installed Activated and even checked on Microsoft website if it's genuine. All looks alright I mounted iso using poweriso iso and started win10.exe Window popped up asking if I want to check for important updates or skip it I clicked skip it and next On the next windows i see enter product key And on the bottom of the window option next (greyed out) and back, no skip button or anything like that. That's where im stuck on the page where windows 10 iso is asking me for product key Can someone please advise me of what should I do? Thanks
Sounds like it's not the exact version of 10 as 7, or else you would see skip. Better check win 7 version, such as N.
Windows 7 is home pro doesn't say if it's KN or n or anything else just home pro and Windows 10 is from Microsoft Web I selected single language then x64 I will try to download another version tomorrow. On Microsoft website available versions are KN N and single language. Single language that's what I downloaded. Which one should I get?
If W7 is home premium you must upgrade with w10 home version and not a single language edition, that is why it's not working Keep your w7 key somewhere in case you'll need in future.
Make sure to have the right W10 upgrade ISO, if you have W7/8 home, don't use W10 pro upgrade ISO, otherwise it will ask for key. If you have other language pack installed, remove them before upgrading, there are reports from other forums that W10 will ask for key if US English is not the default language on your W7/8.
First you need Home Version, then when you get Win7 Sp1 on you need to go to Windows Update and install all recommended updates after that upgrade, the only thing you skip is product key, 1 time skip it, second time do it later, if upgrade is activated, then you can do clean install, use Microsoft tool above, I just downloaded ISO, after you go to win updates and update Win 7 Sp1 Premium, come back and click on ISO to setup, click on it to start upgrade.
@lobo11 Not sure about the steps your talking about, I have installed 7 home premium sp1 updated no other updates do I need all those security updates for Windows 7 before installing from iso? That's about another 2gb grrrrr
@coleoptere on Microsoft website I have choices windows 10, windows 10 KN, windows 10 N, and Windows 10 single language. Which one should I choose if I'm in the UK?
Finally thanks last question later will ask me for language should I choose English international or English?
Yes, you need every recommended update there is, Win 10 will consume Win 7 in upgrade and put it in a folder name windows.old, which when you Clean Install after upgrade disk can be formatted after upgrade, Hardware ID, is already set, use no product key when clean installing, skip it, and do it later
