    Hi.
The problem is that if Google Chrome is set as default web browser then I can't pin it to start menu because then it only opens up as metro application instead of in desktop.
However if I set Internet Explorer as default browser then it works fine.

I tried to pin chrome.exe to start menu and it "works" until I restart the system, then it automatically switches to metro shortcut or just disappears completely.

Is there any way to solve this?

:[ I guess my post is not clear at all.
    I'll use pictures.

    1) When Chrome is set as default browser the tile looks like this:
    9zs33.png
and when you click on the tile it goes to this: ( = metro fullscreen mode)
    20_08_2012__14_41_47.jpg metrochrome.jpg

    2) When Chrome is not set as default browser the tile looks like this: (different background)
    eEWgO.png
and when you click on it, it goes to desktop chrome (the regular one)
    regular.jpg

The question is: How do I keep Chrome as default browser and keep the second tile, so it goes to desktop and not metro?

I have no problems using Chrome, it's just that if there's no workaround to this then the shortcut in start menu is useless.

I don't have it too but still ie10 works faster then chrome in windows 8 just test it. BTW. just reinstall chrome and then when you get shortcut to desktop drag it to taskbar.

Launching Chrome from metro will give you the full screen version if you have Chrome as default browser, however you can launch Chrome from your desktop and u will get the normal old Chrome window

Alright. That's kinda lame though. If it's a sign of things to come and more apps go metro in the future then that whole interface is going to be useless for me and either my taskbar or my desktop is going to be full of shortcuts.

why would you want a metro start menu tile for chrome anyway? it's not like you are going to stay on the metro start menu and use chrome at the same time? are you?

    1. Install Google Chrome (I used Stable)
    2. Unpin any Start links to Google Chrome in Metro
    3. Go to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
    4. Delete any reference to Google Chrome in there
    5. Go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
    6. Create a folder called Google Chrome
    7. Go to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application
    8. Create a shortcut of chrome.exe
    9. Put the chrome.exe shortcut in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Google Chrome
    10. Go to All Apps in Metro
    11. Pin Google Chrome to Start
    12. Profit

You can also rename the shortcut to Google Chrome

I did it in this way:

    1. I installed Chrome and set it as standard browser.
    2. Automatically there is a shortcut placed on the start screen as a tile with a dark background: this starts Chrome as a Metro app.
    3. As I use Classic Start Menu I went in that menu to Chrome, right-clicked on it and choose for Attach to Start.
    4. Now there is also a shortcut placed on the start screen as a tile, but now it has the normal background: this starts Chrome on the desktop.
