    Hi,
I'm new, and I don't speak english very well.
When I boot my notebook (I have a Compaq CQ61-104SL), on the left there is:
    ''Serial Number Not Found''.
Moreover the logo of my laptop is HP when it should be Compaq.
If I press ''esc'' for enter in my BIOS, and then I press F1 per ''Informatio system'', this is all:
    Bios..jpg
Now I have installed on my notebook a distro of Linux, but I want remove it for re-install a Windows Operative System.
The originary Operative System of my notebook was Vista Home Premium x86, but I have formatted all (also recovery partition). I have 2 DVD of recovery, but they don't work. When I put they in my laptop and I reboot, it sayd:
This PC is not supported by the recovery disks for the system. You can not continue to restore the system using these disks.. I think that it happen because there isn't information on the laptop, and it isn't recognized.
    How to remove this:
    ''serial number not found''?
How enter the information on my laptop (notebook model, product number, serial number, UUID number, product configuration id and factory installed os: non-vista to vista?
    Please answer me...
ps: I already wrote a message but I preferred to open a thread

Try updating your BIOS,if you get the same results just do a clean installation, many guides around for the OS of your choice.

Thanks for the answer, but I do not know anything about the BIOS, let alone update it.
    Which version should I download?
Can you help me step by step?

I'm very confused. It's the first time that I try to upgrade my BIOS.
This is 2 immage of everest and cpu-z about my motherboard.

Yap buddy.... just download that & update ur bios. Then use HP DMI Toolkit, as suggested by TTAV134 ;)

Thanks for your help man. I have update my bios, but the writing ''serial number not found'' there is also. I use HP DMI Toolkit and I insert my serial number (I saw it under my laptop) and the name of model of my notebook (I write this ''Compaq Presario CQ61 NoteBook) and...
    I solved the thread!!
The writing has disappeared and the logo returned Compaq!
    Thanks!!!
    Only other 2 questions:
1)ok, the writting was disappeared, but in this picture...
    Mod Bios.jpg
    ...other fields are left empty.
I do not know what they are. How can I find them?
    2) Now the logo ''Compaq''is this:
    compaq-logo.jpg
if I want ripristinate it to originary
    compaq-logo2.jpg
    What should I do?
