I have a computer with a ASUS P5L-MX mother board with an e6300 cpu.
2 gig ram and 80 gig SATA drive.
It has Windows 7 on it with full act.
Trying to install Windows 8 on it but it get to about 30% then has an error that stops the install.
    Any ideals on it.

    All drivers updated.

I am doing it from within W7.
    From DVD
    Try doing upgrade
Have not tried clean install yet, would like to keep what is on the system.

Trying it again and will post the error message.

I would like to update or make sure BIOS is up to date but can not find the windows BIOS update tool on ASUS site.

    clean install or upgrade ?

    sorry late

what about antivirus, did the setup complain of any incompitable app/drivers (drivers of win 8 are different from that of 7 ) in most cases they are the source of the problem

That is not recommended what you are doing but it is your call. Clean install will save you lots o headaches, more than what you will spend fixing after.

So are you using the windows upgrade feature or just running the setup.exe? because you need to use the upgrade feature.

Make sure the installation media is not faulty...avoid DVDs...if you have the ISO, then make a bootable PD by Win 7 USB DVD Tool or WinUSB Maker v2.0 PUBLIC BETA RELEASE 2(Josh Cell Software).

You seem to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8...i recommend you to do a clean install by booting the DVD or PD...as you have 2GB RAM, make sure you're installing 32bit Windows 8.

Your system configuration seems to be OK...But still if you face problems...then either the ISO is faulty or your system hardware. Check the SHA1 of your downloaded Windows 8 ISO...See whether it matches or not.

Not complaining of any programs or drivers.
Running the setup off the DVD. It asks me all the upgrade questions including what I want to keep.

Test your hardware, including hard disk for bad sectors.
I had that problem with a used motherboard.
Once I changed the motherboard, the problem was solved.

This mother board has always worked great and works great with Windows7. Never had any problems.
I have installed Windows 8 on about 25 unit that are in my shop and store front. This is the only one that I am having a real problem with.
I have had some small things with other computers which had easy fixes.
This one only now has motherboard, hard drive and memory installed.

The error message is "Windows 8 installation has failed"
That is all. It also has an "OK" button, when pressed it takes me back to Windows 7 desktop and runs normal.

The one I tried to install first was an upgrade dvd. I have both x64 and x86 pro upgrade build 915440 and 915417
I have used both DVD before. The x64 one works but the x86 one does not work anymore. Error on disk. Trying to re burn it as I write this.
