    Hello people,

    I just downloaded and installed Windows 7 with SP1 on my laptop but I encountered three problems, I hope you guys can help me with them.

    1) At the beginning of the installation it asks me to download important updates for the installation. What do I have to answer Install updates or not install updates?

    2)After the install was completed I got a new partition in 'My computer' its called "WinRe (E: )" what is it and how did it
    appear?

    3) I did an custom install because I wanted to format my drive but I couldt because there was no Drive options (advanced) available, how is this possible?

    Methode of install: I just extracted the iso with winrar and opened the setup file.

    Thanks in advance :hug2:

    1: No
    2: Is the System partition (100MB), I guess
    3:Because you didn't install from bootable media (dvd or usb)

    There are threads on this forum if you don't know how to install from usb.

    I extracted the iso with winrar and that opened the setup file.

    @woebetide

    So I have to ignore the update question?

    That sounds like you did an upgrade, clean install is always best.

    @CelestialSaiyan

    After installation is complete, you can set the auto update!

    WinRe is supposed to be Windows recovery environment.
    It replaces the Recovery Console that was used in Win XP

    Recovery partition.

    Will come in handy when system files get corrupt and system wont boot

    If I follow that guide will the partition 'winRE' get erased?

    I just bought some blank dvd+r's so I am able to do a proper clean install.

    Why don't you just delete the partition since windows is installed then you can re-partition the drive to re gain space or just do a custom install.

    I think the best thing to do is to start all over and do a clean install.
