If you fail to activate within 30 days of installation what features are disabled?

    ...Seriously? That's it?

It's a nice change from the forced black wallpaper and nag screens

Is it really worth the time and money upgrading to 8.1? I'm now on win 7 and I think it's pretty good already but....

It doesn't matter what do you think about upgrading to Windows 8.1, if you should you will upgrade to it at any cost. Just remember what happen when Windows 8 was released, M$ sold the product key for $14 - $39 max. Now what is the price of Win 8.1 Pro? $199. Very similar to Windows 7 Professional price when it was launched. Also M$ earning more money by introducing something called 8.1 Pro Pack which has WMC for $99 if you upgrade from Windows 8 (Core) or if you have Pro you should pay $9.99. Ultimately if you upgrade from Core the total would be $119+$99 = $218 and Pro $199+$9.99 = $208.9. M$ is always smart on reaching people's mind. Right? :)
