I have a laptop that has this version of windows. The laptop needs repair because it won't boot, but I need the CD (to boot from it and repair). I don't have it, I don't have a recovery disc either. I do have a windows pro version but I'm not gonna risk using that for repair.

What version of windows would I need? Download MCE 2005, specifically OEM version or what? Here's my other problem, I'm not sure what version of MCE I have, SP1, SP2, SP3, not sure, well it's not really my laptop, it's my sister's, she doesn't remember. So say I download MCE 2005 SP3, and but the computer only has SP1, would it give me any problems when repairing the damaged system files? Thanks.

    Thanks a lot Medic.

Anyway, I already booted into windows and fixed the BSOD issue but now I'm getting an autochk.exe teal screen, but it skips it after a few seconds and boots windows fine. I've searched around in google for some info and found a lot. Right now I'm just trying to use SFC/ SCANNOW, but it won't let repair the files because it doesn't accept the disc. It asks me for the Windows XP Pro CD2, when I have media center 2005. It won't read it's i386 folder, nor the one in the harddrive, the regular one or the one in the servicepackfiles folders. I already changed the registry source path so it would point to the disc in the cd drive or the harddrive to look for the files but nope, it won't do a thing. Sigh.

Can you simply stop this from scheduled tasks??

    1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Scheduled Tasks.
    2. Click either Chkdsk or Autochk in the list of scheduled tasks.
    3. Under Folder Tasks, click Delete this item.
    or..

Maybe you need to fixmbr or fixboot from the recovery console..

BTW...MCE2005 is actually XP SP2 with some "upgrades"..or changes to be more specific. To repair the system you need the SP2 discs. If you used the "SP3 MCE 2005" it willnot work..
