I clean installed Win 10 Pro on my daughter's HP Pavilion Desktop 590-p0053w. It has that Intel Optane Memory(16GB). I am unable to install the software to enable it. I have a screenshot of the error I get and I have had no luck trying to fix searching google. Disk Management shows the Drive 2 as the Optane memory and it is all unallocated. Am I supposed to format this? If so Fat 32 or NTFS? GPT or Legacy? Here is the error.
You don't format the Optane drive, you blank it. The directions above wont help, use these: 1. Open an Administrator Command Prompt (Right click on your start menu icon, select "Command Prompt (Admin)" from the list). 2. Type "diskpart" and press enter. 3. Type "list disk" to display a list of your connected storage devices. Here you should be able to see your memory module, note the disk number. 4. Type "Select Disk 1" and press enter. Make sure to adjust to match the disk number displayed for your module. 5. Type "Clean all" and press enter. Diskpart will proceed to low-level format your memory module, this process may take several minutes. You will not see a progress bar, but a blinking cursor. Once the command completes you may close command prompt. Intel didn't do us any favors when it came to enabling Optane and the software and drivers require that you blank the Optane drive first, even though the software will immediately tell you that it will blank the drive before you enable Optane acceleration.
Do you know which software download I would use? There are many and I have no idea which one to use? Maybe a link to which download I need to make this work? Also it talks about shrinking 5MB at the end of the drive?? Which drive the C drive or the Optane drive and how? I will do what you said above
Beautiful...While I was waiting for responses I got it up and running for her. I did everything you said to do. Thanks a lot. Take care.
you have to leave 20 mb unallocated disk space when you install window for optane to work and it should install on gpt partition.
