Hey guys, as I had a question regarding torrenting on Windows 10...can MS "see" what files users are downloading using bittorrent/ u torrent? Eg:- Say I download the Microsoft Toolkit from here, will Windows 10 somehow "see" that network activity & send info to MS?

Plz let know if there are any settings in bittorrent which can stop MS from getting info like that (so, they can't exactly see what's being downloaded)

Any people here using torrent on Windows 10?

You mean the telemetry built in w10?
If you don't want that M$ might 'see' it just don't use w10 for download.
Consider they can read keyboard and probably all file names on your system....contents of torrents I don't think so, though. But the final filename, probably.

Yes, the telemetry is what I was talking about...MS is giving an option to not allow sharing of keyboard typing isn't it? At least the privacy settings related to text & inking personalization in 10074 made it look like that.

So, they can't see what is being downloaded using torrents? If that is the case I can just change MStoolkit to XYZ.exe :p

As said I don't believe that M$ has access to running programs and their contents (in physical memory) themselves. But they could have access to the files on HDD .... to believe is not the same as to know.
I guess since nobody exactly knows what's up with telemetry in detail, nobody can answer your question for sure. Sure is it'd be safer to use another OS until w10 is without telemetry.

Yeah, that's why I have it on dual boot with Windows 8.1 but, isn't the insider Program going to stay even after RTM? At least that's what I heard...

The simple answer is "NO!" I use torrent on every Windows OS I am on. Have never had any issues with anyone spying! I do not think I am important enough that anyone would care or be willing to devote the resources to spy on me.

He asked if they can 'see' it, not if he gets issues/trouble! ;)

Regardless of this they should remove Asimov (telemetry) at the final version. :)

    I understood your entire answer.
But it has no logic / relation to his question...you don't know what they can see, right?

    Lol. :)

Sure it's up to everybody how to judge about telemetry, but actually nobody knows what's collected. IT pros even suggest not to use w10 now for productive tasks to protect 'privacy'. :D

But since the OP is a little worried... to suggest to do it rather on another OS sounded reasonable to me.

I also personally think it'd be OK...but sometimes it's better to be save than sorry. (Imagine the OP would get trouble and say @MDL Yen has said that they cannot read torrents)
Since he's dual booting why not doing it on the other OS? :)

Based on this you have a choice:
    A. assume everything is collected
    B. assume nothing is collected

If you pick B, sleep tight knowing your data is safe

    If you pick A:

    1. Sleep tight knowing the entire world is watching your data/files
    2. Drive yourself, and all around you, completly insane worrying about your data/files

    It is up to you...

"If you pick B, sleep tight knowing your data is safe" :laie:

It must be nice living in a world where there is no NSA or where MS doesn't collect data from your Windows installation.

Honestly I wouldn't be using Windows 10TP etc. to download anything suspicious or shady, since in the user agreement and privacy statement they ADMIT that they are collecting data or telemetry. Especially since no one but MS knows what that telemetry contains, and it's been proven/admitted that they work with "Third Parties". You really just need to use common sense, if it's not legal then you probably shouldn't be doing it, especially on a OS that they tell you that they are collecting data.

If using torrent M$ would be the last I would be worrying about depending on what files you are downloading if Music or Movies then I would be more worried about the fact when downloading them you are also uploading and can get done for file sharing those :(

Naah, I don't torrent movies/music I stream them...It's the occasional Windows beta Iso's or Microsoft Toolkit download that I was worried about o_O but, anyways I guess it's best to wait till RTM before using any torrenting software on Windows 10
