I know UEFI's been discussed a lot on MDL. I searched and didn't see an answer to this (probably) easy question. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 5720, 8Gb RAM, Windows 8.1 installed in Legacy mode. If I switch boot from Legacy to UEFI will it boot up? Also, will I be able to continue to use MTK for activation?
wither your on Legacy or UEFI - MTK will work, anyway it does on my Dell - and just test on UEFI HP OEM with Office 2013 VL works fine..
Since MTK is not a loader like DAZ's masterpiece used in 7 times activation of your system is not affected at all. If you run your system in UEFI mode it also should boot nicely and if it does not, which I doubt, you can go back to legacy mode
Actually, looks like about maybe 30 minutes worth of work and I preserve my system as is. I'm fine with command line. I'm making a current backup now before I start. I'd love to jump right in, but I have a lunch date, so it will have to wait till the afternoon.
It worked perfectly using the instructions in Tito's link. Pretty quick - just the amount of time to boot from a USB stick, type a handful of commands, then reboot. No performance improvements noted, but no problems, either. I was just glad to do it as an exercise. Thanks to all for the advice.
The only performance difference you should notice is the wake from sleep option. It seems to be faster on UEFI systems.
Restart from sleep was instant. Not even a second delay. OK, one more question. What about all those settings I used to have access to in BIOS? Say I want to make a change to Intel RST. How would I do that now?
That's a good question. I've wondered about custom storage and uefi. I noticed in my UEFI that it had an option to select UEFI drivers or load the storage rom, but I don't know how things differ.
