In Rage video settings there is a "GPU transcoding" option... I've never seen this before.
What is this ? what are the benefits to activate it ? my gpu is a gtx 560.
    thx

I believe its basically upsampling of the low quality console textures so they look better on PC. Its definitely not a substitute for higher res textures in the first place, its basically the same as taking a 320x200 picture and upsampling it to say, 1920x1080! Its pretty standard for game companies to rely on features like this, and features of the graphics cards and drivers to make graphics look better, instead of taking the time and doing it properly in the first place. Despite the features making the graphics look better, for the processing power requires they quite frankly look quite crap! Of course, the logical thing to do would be to make the graphics for PC then downsample them in studio for consoles, but that makes too much sense doesn't it?!
