my pc supports up to 667mhz ddr2 ram. i have happened across some 800mhz ddr2 ram sticks for free. will running ram that has a higher clock speed than what my board supports mess anything up or will it just run at the max clock speed my board can handle?
If you use both the RAMs (667 MHz & 800 MHz) you RAM speed will be 667 MHz only. But if you use only the 800 MHz RAM then your RAM speed will be 800 MHz. Edit: I did not read this:
The sticks of RAM are not guaranteed to work with your board, density etc. If they do though, as has already been stated they will work at your dimm's maximum speed of 667mhz.
it's funny, they are 800 and my board's max is 667, but they are running at 533??? doesn't make any sense to me. but my board also supposedly only supports 2gb max too and i'm currently running 4gb, so who knows ??? anyway, thanks for the quick replies guys.
yeah, my bios is so old there's nothing to change in regards to this yes, i believe they are, how did you know, and why do you ask?
HyperX ram has a habbit of being a little quirky, ive had them before so know only to well that they can do odd things. Probably why R29k knew
