Have you tried clicking the 'Customize...' button and then clicking the 'Use Default Settings' button at the bottom left, see if that resets the behaviour of that option!

No one is answering because all people are interested in is activating Windows 7, nothing else! Once it's activated no one seems interested in actually using it or helping solving problems for each other!

I did find a reg entry where I think it gets enabled/disabled:

    HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1310647509-1797665489-2701725678-1001\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

and look for a binary key called 'Start_TrackProgs' it should have either a value of 1 (enabled) or 0 (disabled) if that key is there and it's set to 1 then I'm not too sure, sorry!

True, it selects or deselects the Check-box option but does it solve the "grayed-out" problem?

    Because nobody knows.

    Try this:
    Start | Run | gpedit.msc <enter>

    Go to:
User Config | Admin Templates | Start Menu and Taskbar.

All of the policies in the RH pane should show as 'Not Configured'.

Check to see if a policy has become applied, and un-apply it as required.

I didn't post because I don't know the answer. I for one don't even read the help me activate my copy of windows threads, I concentrate on the user issues. This is one that I would like to know how it gets fixed because it is one of those weird things that I have never seen but I would like to know how it happens.

I also have to browse through about 4 new pages of threads every 6-8 hours so I don't have time to respond to everything.

    Anyway here is my response:

I don't know. LOL, but if someone does find a solution post it (and that sounds like a douche because it makes it sound like you only care about the solution not the root cause)
