After updating to TH2, I noticed that Regedit's Find (Ctrl+F) has started to crash randomly. Sometimes it works, sometimes it just loops forever in "searching the registry..", and after I click cancel, regedit crashes: Code: Log Name: Application Source: Application Error Event ID: 1000 Task Category: (100) Level: Error Keywords: Classic Description: Faulting application name: regedit.exe, version: 10.0.10586.0, time stamp: 0x5632d798 Faulting module name: COMCTL32.dll, version: 6.10.10586.0, time stamp: 0x5632d2ce Exception code: 0xc00000fd Fault offset: 0x00000000000037a7 Faulting process id: 0x534 Faulting application start time: 0x01d11e4c86f163ef Faulting application path: C:\WINDOWS\regedit.exe Faulting module path: C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.10586.0_none_8c15ae12515e1c22\COMCTL32.dll Can you reproduce this, or is it just my problem?
same issue, regedit crashes (i did an upgrade). all my shares, networks options, ramdisk, utilities are lost. i think will do a clean install.
Same issue, after upgrade when performing full search across the registry keys, causing hang forever.
I have the same issue, fresh install of Enterprise x64 10586/1511 on a laptop, was testing Windows Updates Policies did a search (CTRL-F) for "AUOptions" after first search result, hit F3 to search again, hit ESC while it searches and it crashes, if I don't hit ESC the search never completes
I have seen this exact issue mentioned elsewhere, so it seems to affect some users. However, I cannot reproduce this myself.
Yes, this pretty much confirms that it's Microsoft's bug in 1511. Sfc /scannow shows no issues btw, and I have (so far) no other problems.
Clean install vs. upgrade doesn't matter, and this is a random issue anyway. Today even I couldn't reproduce it anymore.
For me crashing randomly, yestarday i had this issue. Now it's working fine. No Clean installation tho, just Upgraded for now.
if the search takes a few minutes, clicking the cancel button crashes regedit. i have tested again. same result.
Same problem here. I've reported the same back in the 10586 thread: Got it on two computers, one w10 home laptop that was upgraded via WU and a w10 pro desktop upgraded via iso. Both regedit.exe versions present on W10 can't finish a search. In the laptop I've tried a re-upgrade via iso, but the problem remains. In the former desktop, I've tried to clean install windows then, and right after installing most drivers and a couple of boots, regedit was finishing searches fine. But after installing another few small programs and drivers, and connecting to the internet to run WU (mostly office and KB3105211) it started hanging again. On both computers running sfc /scannow doesn't solve the issue, and no errors are found. Also, RegScanner has no problem to search registry on all locations, so it doesn't seem like a registry corruption problem. On another desktop something completely different happened. I've also upgraded via ISO and right after that, I've confirmed that regedit was working properly. Then, after setting up all accounts with LPs, etc, and installing office and KB3105211 updates via WU, regedit.exe is still working OK and pops up the "no more results were found" message.
Thank god I am seeing other people with the same problem. I created a thread which I go through all my tests and heartache to try resolve this over the last 2 days. I still haven't got the definite answer but it will answer a few of your questions. It is not allowing me to post a link because my post count here is not high enough but if you go to the Windows Ten forums in "General Discussion" The title of the thread is "Registry issue with new 10586 build" and it is near the top of the list.
